New Year’s Eve is an extraordinary time in Dubai. From the world’s largest firework shows to exquisite parties that attract even Hollywood’s biggest celebrities, there’s nothing you can’t expect in these year-end celebrations.
Whether you’re a resident or planning to visit the city, here are some fun and flexible ideas to welcome the new year, Dubai-style.
Get fascinated by fireworks and light shows
New Year’s Eve in Dubai is incomplete without these astounding works of light, color and visual magic. While several prominent hotels to tourist spots like Global Village also join in on lighting up the night sky, these are the top-three show stealers.
The Palm Jumeirah and World Islands pyrotechnics are the largest in the country. It even broke the world record in 2014! You can either book a table at the resort’s New Year’s Eve Royal Gala or watch cost-free from the Palm Jumeirah Boardwalk.
Burj Al Arab
Comparatively less crowded, you can watch the Burj Al Arab show from the nearby Kite Beach itself. You can get there early, and even plan to make it a sunset picnic before the night’s festivities begin.
What was known to be the epicenter of Dubai’s firework ceremonies on New Year’s Eve may set up a different kind of stage this year. Organizers promise a ‘never-before-seen spectacle’ called ‘Light up 2018’ which will be a choreographed show of laser, water and musical performances to be displayed on the canvas of Downtown Dubai.
Naturally, you should plan to leave early to get a comfortable spot. It is best to use public transport as the Dubai Metro will function all night (except the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station from 10pm onwards) but road traffic and parking can block your trip if you plan to drive.
Paint the town red
Party till the year ends
You can spend a night of singing and swaying at Lucky Voice, the city’s karaoke hub. Elevate your senses at Zero Gravity’s annual New Year Bash. You can also watch the fireworks while enjoying music, dance and beverages partying at Barasti. However, these hotspots can cost you anywhere between AED250 to AED1000. Booking in advance can help you get a better deal for these New Year’s Eve packages.
Hop, Skip and Cheers!
Don’t want to commit yourself to one place the whole night? Don’t worry. Almost all restaurants and clubs in the city will have a special new year event you can stop at before you move to another.
Go on a feast fest
Make it a night to remember
Want to do something special for your loved ones? Take them out to some of the city’s exquisite fine-dining spots like At.mosphere, Pierchic or the New Year’s Eve Gala at Atlantis, the Palm. You can even dine as you cruise the creek in the iconic Bateaux Dubai.
Go on a food crawl
Cut down the cost and boost up the flavor. Visit some of the city’s hidden-gems like Raju Omlet, Ka’ak Al Manara or Yakitate to go on a gastronomical adventure.
Escape from it all
Camp in the desert
One of the most cost-effective ways to enjoy an unforgettable night, desert camping is an all-time favorite. Visit your nearest supermarket to grab a tent, a barbeque, and some firewood to make merry on the dunes.
Stare at the stars
If you’re not a fan of packing and setting up tents, just bring a few blankets and snacks and drive out of the city. Stop at a place undisturbed by streetlamps and city lights and spend the night gazing at the universe’s own fireworks.
Stay in, stay in control
Invite friends over
Ask them to bring food and beverages along or you can show off your own cooking skills by preparing an elaborate multi-course meal. The best part about being indoors is that you can go from dancing, to watching a movie, to playing board games as the mood demands.
Prepare for a fresh start
New Year’s Eve doesn’t always have to be about revelry and frolic. You can be proactive by planning your resolutions, workout routine, charting your career plan or just sleeping in early to start 2018 before anyone else.
Safety first as you end the year
If you do plan to go out on New Year’s Eve, ensure that you plan ahead for a safe and sound night. It goes without saying that you shouldn’t drive under influence of alcohol at all. The Dubai Police also advises people to pack light when visiting any of the fireworks spots and avoid clogging the road with cars. If you are on foot, please do not jaywalk under any circumstance.
We wish you have a joyous and memorable, New Year’s Eve in Dubai and a safe, successful 2018.
