Below are 5 ways for getting your fitness exercises in, even when life gets crazy.

How to get fit at home in the evenings

Are your days jam-packed? Regardless, we’re here to tell you that you’ve got zero excuses not to work out. Late night workouts at home save you from the hassle of driving to the gym mid-day, finding a parking spot and then parking your car, getting changed, working out, taking a shower, and getting back on the road.
All you need to do is set up your very own little gym in a small corner of the house and gear it up with the basic fitness equipment. That way, you can get your sweat on for at least 30-45 minutes, 3 days per week with Youtube workout videos or any fitness app exercises on your smartphone. The result? An easily incorporated fitness routine that will produce significant ongoing gains in muscle size and strength.

Fitness apps we’re drooling over:
  • Nike N+TC: This app is literally the closest you can get to a personal trainer without actually splurging for one.
  • Spring: Add some music to your workouts with this app that provides the perfect rhythm-based soundtrack to your workout with a swipe of your smartphone.
  • Kayla Itsines: The most efficient 28 minutes no weights, fat burning workout. You get to choose your fitness level and the body part to be trained for the day! Bonus: free meal plans and recipes to help shred the fat
YouTube workouts that get our stamp of approval:

Work out first thing in the morning

Are you wondering how A.M exercisers actually do it? Nobody is born a morning person, so they must have worked hard on themselves. Would you accept the challenge? More energy and better focus throughout the day – guaranteed! The only thing getting in the way of your morning workout is, well, your bed.

Plus, here’s the deal: You won’t have to worry about exercise for the rest of the day.

Try one of our favorite good morning workouts (tip: we love doing this mini HIIT workout before taking a morning shower):

  • 80 jumping jacks
  • 70 crunches
  • 60-second plank hold
  • 50 bridges
  • 40 bicycle twists
  • 30 walking lunges
  • 20 push-ups
  • 10 burpees

Catch up on the evening news or your favorite TV show by getting your sweat on

Just because you’re catching up on a global news or your favorite series after an exhausting day doesn’t mean you can’t break a sweat to keep fit. Clear up some space between your couch and the TV, and get started with the push-ups, crunches, jumping jacks, squats and more…

Here is an example of a quick fix workout you can do while multi-tasking:

  • 25 jumping jacks
  • 30 high knees
  • 10 burpees
  • 10 squats
  • 10 burpees
  • 30 high knees
  • 25 jumping jacks

Repeat 2 or 3 times for a complete cardio workout!

Find group classes that are convenient for you

…And put it on your calendar just like you would an important appointment. Look for a studio that offers exciting morning and evening classes just blocks from your house or close to your office. Pick the classes you know you would actually enjoy and alternate between them so that you don’t fall into the dreadful on-again/off-again trap. Simply change your mindset and do it, and keep reminding yourself that there really is no excuse for missing exercise.

Exciting group classes to try:

  • Spinning classes at TribeFit. [Silverene Tower, Dubai Marina].
  • Aqua aerobics at L’Atelier Aqua Fitness [Al Safa].
  • Combat sports at The Champion Club [Icon 2 Tower, JLT].

Walk, walk, walk

As a daily exercise routine, ditch transport whenever possible and try to walk or take a few flights of stairs instead. It is one of the easiest and healthiest alternatives to hitting the gym every day. Take things up a notch by purchasing a pedometer that can monitor how many steps you walk each day and calculate the calories you have burned.

We love these gadgets:

  • SKMEI Outdoor Waterproof Pedometer Calories Clocks Digital – AED199, [souq.com]
  • S2 black Smart Band Wristband Bracelet Heart Rate Pedometer Sleep – AED100 [souq.com]

Finally, balancing exercise with your daily regimen is totally possible. All you need to do is get into the mindset of making small lifestyle changes for a healthier and fitter version of yourself. Good luck!
